Even while under moderate rule, Bangladesh remains a Muslim country and respecting these observances will help insure a traveler’s safety. Women travelers should try and limit skin exposure and men should never touch local women. Alcohol is generally frowned upon in Bangladesh rural areas, but is acceptable in higher-end restaurants and hotels. As in neighboring countries, it is commonplace to eat with and offer the right hand in greetings, as the left hand is perceived as unclean.
Bangladesh travel offers an expanse of great food, commerce, and culture. Bangladesh lays claim to a wonderful array of seafood delicacies and local favorites. One of the largest Bangladesh exports is their garment industry and supply some of the world’s largest clothing brands. Although these products won’t be commonly found in local villages, the larger metropolitan areas will sell them. Lastly, possibly the greatest part of Bangladesh travel are the locals. Most Bangladeshis see very few tourists and are just as interested in you, as you are in them. If you respect local custom and tradition, Bangladeshi citizens are generally secular and welcoming.
Anyone interested in Bangladesh travel should invest in the wealth of historical information that surrounds this great country. Since it is not a tourist hot-spot, travelers will not have the same protective bubble they experience at other destinations. With that said, Bangladesh offers the opportunity of real adventure and discovery.
